Wooroloo Bushfire Report

14 months after the event, the long awaited review into the Wooroloo fire of February 2021 has FINALLY been released...

The report partly endorses Save Perth Hills's long held view that safer bushfire response must begin with safer planning - Prevention is better than cure!

That said, the report references bushfire RESPONSE measures as a priority... With the Perth Hills being labeled an extreme bushfire risk zone in the report, we'd have thought planning might have been featured across ALL the recommendations...

We're still curious as to why this report took so long to release and why it dropped today on Federal Budget Day.. one of the most significant media covered days in the year...

An independent review, about electricity failures in late December 21, is called, organised, conducted, delivered to the State Govt and tabled in Parliament- while the Wooroloo Bushfire report - delivered to Govt BEFORE the power outages even occurred - is still missing in action… WHY?

Save Perth Hills has been alerting the WA Govt about the risk of an urban housing estate at proposed North $toneville for years.

We even suggested a new direction to place WA as a ‘World Leader of contemporary Climate Change planning that safeguards, not endangers, at-risk communities.’

It looks like QLD is learning from its mistakes, committing to “making changes to planning rules to make sure these things don't happen again.”

Happen again??? Isn't prevention better than a cure?!
