As we wait to see if Planning Minister Rita Saffioti will ‘CALL-IN’ Satterley’s appeal and end the North $toneville debacle, we share a timely reminder of the outstanding COMMUNITY efforts in this monumental battle against dangerous and destructive urbanisation in the Hills.

It’s a year ago tonight (Aug 27 2019) when MORE than 1,000 of you made your way to Mundaring Arena, to witness the historic and unanimous NO TO NORTH STONEVILLE vote by our Shire of Mundaring Councillors ✅

Re-live that amazing moment – and remind yourselves we’re achieving so much, for so many. This picture says so much... it is our community standing together.

Since then, WA’s highest planning authority, the WAPC, has REJECTED North Stoneville ✅

Save Perth Hills and Mundaring Shire have applied to RE-ZONE North Stoneville back to RURAL ✅

Our message is spread FAR and WIDE via our FaceBook posts, which now regularly reach 10,000 PEOPLE! ✅

🙋‍♂️🙋🏽‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏽‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️🙋‍♂️🙋🏽‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️

...And Satterley, supported by landowner the Anglican Church, are appealing the WAPC refusal of their fire-trap plan. How can they ignore the weight of opposition and push on regardless?

Meanwhile, our Media Manager and Stoneville resident, Debra Bishop, was interviewed by 6PR last night. Have a listen and be reminded why, as Debra points out, North Stoneville is ‘doomed to failure and tragedy.’

And why, as a Community, we’re committed to fighting Australia’s biggest land developer, and the Anglican Church, which both want to build homes that, we know, will burn.

C’mon Rita – you have the power. PLEASE - call in this debacle, NOW.

So...

Despite our Community REJECTING North Stoneville

Despite our Council - a year ago this week, REJECTING North Stoneville.

Despite WA’s most senior Planning authority, the WAPC, REJECTING North Stoneville...

And, despite North Stoneville contravening 4 State Planning policies...

$atterley is appealing the rejection...

So, Save Perth Hills is appealing to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti MLA

“Please, Minister. Use your powers, under the Act, to ensure our community’s concerns are upheld and the WAPC’s decision - to REFUSE North Stoneville, stands.”

$atterley is entitled to appeal to the State Administrative Tribunal.

But we’re truly dismayed the landowner, the Anglican Church, supports an appeal, given REFUSAL was based on severe BUSHFIRE risks.

Therefore, we also appeal to Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy:

“Please Archbishop. Use your powers, as head of WA’s Anglican Church, to withdraw the appeal and demonstrate you hold the protection of life as more valuable than a return on land that was a gift”.

And, to $atterley:

We've fought this for 26 years. We’re in this for as long as you persist with a plan that risks your reputation - and our lives.

Stand by everyone. This could get very interesting...

Over the past 20 months, the community has been clear that it does not want poorly planned urban sprawl in the Perth Hills.

NOTE - what happens next in our collective story is incredibly important. Fighting and reacting to ill-conceived development plans is not the future we want to see. Attention is turning to the reality for the Perth Hills region that we ALL WANT. Here is a significant step towards that reality... The good people over at RDA Perth have put together a Perth Hills Community Survey. This survey has been created based on RDA speaking with businesses, local government and community groups across the Perth Hills. We encourage you to respond to the survey and more than that, to share it out across the Perth Hills and beyond. What is your vision for the Perth Hills? What do you want to see? We look forward to seeing the results and what happens next!
